Who Me?

After a long day of testing, Ava, Grandma Lee, and I went on a little walk around the corner. "Hey Ava!" I said. She responded to me with this look of... Who, Me? With Sue out of town for a friend of her's baby shower in LA; Ava, Kayla, Grandma Lee, and I concluded the evening with some 31 flavors. Ava indulged in some mint chocolate chip with the upmost enthusiasm.

Typical Day of Ava

It's not too often I get to spend some alone time with Ava. Today Sue was off taking niece Jessica to some garage sales and Kayla was visiting her dad. I decided to simply take some video and shots of Ava's explorations. Luckily she was in an entertaining mood.

Johnny 5 is not alive

Computer has been giving me random "blue screens of death" for the past couple of days. Finally did an OS restore which completely wiped the machine of all information. I, of course, backed up all inportant stuff, however the recovery is not as simple as one would think. Slowly making progress. In the mean time, if you like photography, or random blabber, (jk Dad) check out my dad's photo site here. Hopefully I'll be completely up and running again within a few days. A couple quick sidenotes-
Dad- San Franciso was great Thursday. Looking forward to putting up some of my pics. Lovin' the new camera?
Troy- Good shooting. I'll post a couple of those to.
Brandon and Vanessa- Thank you for today. Thank you for allowing me to be a part of your move. I loved moving your new mattress! Ha! ...Congratulations on the new place; it is really nice.

Shooting Range

For those of you who know what I am talking about, I can say my shooting is most likely worthy of passing. Thanks Troy for a great couple houndred rounds! Besides, nothing relieves stress after a long week of work like the slow squeeze of a lethal trigger. Guns used today-Beretta 9, S&W .40, Gloc .40

Bay Bridge Construction

Photo of a new Pilar alongside existing Bay Bridge. This photo was taken from Treasure Island on the construction site.

Quick Trip to San Francisco

Thursday, September 21st, was a quick trip to San Francisco. Plan was, meet some clients along the 80, do lunch with the old man (who was buying his new camera from a guy named Manu in SF), and take some pictures. The one of the city was taken from Treasure Island. Meeting Manu was a treat. This guy has the equipment. "That's about Five Grand in your hand right now," said Manu. He was referring to his camera and lens he had just entrusted to my grip. Visit this guys site for some really cool pictures of "The City." Click Here. Really good stuff. Most of the pictures taken on this adventure were off the beaten path on government controlled property. Good to bring out the rebel in you once in a while. Look for some other San Francisco pictures posted in the right column.

The Rough Life

It's not jumping out of an airplane but someone has to spend the day playing 18 holes at Haggin Oaks. Beautiful day. Not windy, not a cloud in the sky, and sunny, blue skies. Today's party was Danny, Kevin, Brandon, John (Danny's future father in law) and I. I will not reveal scores because I do not wish to be sued for defamation of character, but I will say that I came in third out of five.

Apple Hill

Apple Hill, A little mountain town east of us on Hwy 50 beyond Placerville. Didn't have much time to investigate the history but I do know there are a lot of apples there this time of year. Comments are welcome if you know about this area! The town is also sprinkled with some local wineries of which we made a stop at one called Primus and purchased a couple bottles of port and one bottle of wine. The wine is to complement dinner tonight. It was nice to take a little Saturday drive, get Sue and Ava out of the house, and spend a little bit of time together. It is amazing watching Ava interact in new environments.

A Few Photos from Apple Hill

Weekend Morning Ritual

For Sue, it's not so much the I love you's, it's the Starbucks and Noahs Bagels in the morning that does the trick. One Sesame Bagel and one Venti Earl Gray Tea. Can't miss with one of those pumpkin muffins either this time of year. Also one of Ava's favorite breakfast items. The Blueberry Bagel. A likeness she shares with sister Kayla. While I'm there, might as well get a bagel myself and some caffeine.

Cooper, the Dog

I'll take a little bit of space here while playing catch up to introduce Cooper. He is the definition of dog. Never gets angry, always hungry, always wants to please, can sit, rollover, stay, shake, stand, beg, lay down, and a couple more. He is ever so gentle with Ava and can put up with a world of hurt from any 9 year old. (If ya know what I mean) He'll stand his ground to protect his family and will never stop loving them. Cooper...you're a good boy!

13,000 Feet Down

To those of you that have called me crazy, stupid, etc., you are all right. You have to be out of your friggin mind to successfully get through this. I signed my life away and the adventure began. From the video, you can see, in the prep room, that I am only capable of nodding and smiling. I do not have the ability to converse. It takes a few seconds for me to answer the question, "What is your name?" I will try to explain what this experience was like even though there is no real way. I suggest all of you lose your friggin mind yourself and try it out. This experience, to this day, has been my most exhilarating one. It truly is an out of body experience. It conquered my fears.

By the time we board the plane my intelligence level has plummeted to retarded. I am simply a baby following my parents instructions...AKA my white haired instructor. Now here's a guy that is about 40 years older than myself and about a foot shorter. The younger instructors have no problem telling me that my guy could die any second. Most likely during the jump. Not really what you want to hear given the present situation. Veteran jumper jokes I presume. All kidding aside, I came away with the conclusion that my guy had the most experience.

So, up we go. It took us about a year to reach jump altitude, or so it felt like a year. I was sitting in the front of the plane facing the rear, meaning I would be the last to go. Before I knew it, before I saw anyone jump, I was crouching at the open door. Below I could see the green and brown fields of the Sacramento Valley. If you read my lips in the video at this point you can make out, "Holy F%*cki@g Sh#t." I heard, "Put your head back." I did this and then without any effort the little guy popped us out that open door. Here's something I've never felt before. This instant, this very instant...think about it yourself for a second. Yep, your falling to the earth. There is nothing between the realm of life and death except a parachute which is attached to someone else. Which way is up? Where am I? Why is it so damn windy? And then.......you're floating. Within a few seconds out of the airplane you lose the feeling of falling and you become part of the sky. I finally got the opportunity to ask myself, "Am I really doing this?" WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Sixty seconds of freefall. My veteran instructor took me on spins, turns, and glided me through the sky. I even gave the camera guy floating in front of me the double thumbs up. This is the best! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO Wait..A parachute does need to open to live another day. ARGHHHHHHHHHH,

My croth was submitted to some terrible, temporary pain, but I was about to discover that floating calmly to the ground with a deployed parachute above you was just as awesome as freefalling. I could have a conversation at this peacful juncture with the little guy strapped to my back. The instructor put the reins in my hands and told me to raise them up as high as I could. SHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHIT. Straight down. 100 or so MPH towards earth. We then slowed down and I was told to raise one strap and bring the other down. 4-5 excruating and awesome rotations were made. When we slowed again I was told that we just executed a 3G turn. My back still hurts. I tell you this because some of the instructors did not let their passangers drive. This added soo much to the experience.

He brought us around for the landing, handed me the straps, told me to bring them all the way down and land on my butt due to the fact that he was much shorter than I. The landing was extremely soft. I see no risk for sprained ankles etc.

The rest of the day was boring.

So, congratulations to Becky, Bruce, Danny, and I for accomplishing this task. It is one that none of us will ever forget.

My 1st Jump out of a Perfectly Good Airplane. The Video!

Start of the BLOG

Who came up with that word anyway? Blog??? Blog..Blog, hmm, anyway. After a couple years of receiving invites to read my father's BLOG, I have come to appreciate the digital archive of events, photographs, and videos that he has collected. Hence my inspiration to have my very own Blog and share some of my very own events, photos, etc. So, let's get started. The next string of items will have no relevance to any type of time line due to the fact that there are some things that I would like to include that have already happened. I plan to catch up with myself in the very near future.
